Reagan Companies has been a staple in the Syracuse, NY community since 1929. Even though our client list spreads over 15 states in the Northeast, our home remains where James F. Reagan opened the business almost nine decades ago–in the small town of Marcellus–11 miles west of the City of Syracuse.
We’re an independent insurance agency offering a broad scope of Risk Management and insurance solutions to help manage your potential risks. Collectively, our dedicated Risk Managers and team have decades of experience and work closely with clients to help you make important and informed decisions every day when it comes to your future.
Over the years, our agency has grown to one of the largest insurance and risk management firms in Central New York, thanks in large part to our over sixty dedicated employees. Today we serve as a trusted advisor for more than 4,000 personal and commercial insurance clients and over 450 wealth advisory clients.

The History of Our Agency
1929
Reagan Companies was founded.
The year was 1929. Wall Street was crashing. America’s economy was heading into a depression. Despite a bleak fiscal forecast, one man had the vision to start a company that would help protect his neighbors. That man was James F. Reagan of Marcellus.
1939
Mary B. Reagan took over the agency after the passing of James F. Reagan.
Just ten years after starting the business, James F. Reagan died unexpectedly in an accident. His wife, Mary B. Reagan, a former teacher in Marcellus’ one-room schoolhouse on East Hill, didn’t let a single ball drop. She did what she had to do for her young family and took over the business, running it exactly as her husband had.
1963
James P. Reagan, one of Mary B. Reagan’s son, took over the agency.
Jim Reagan continues to grow the business.
1978
Mike Reagan joined the agency as President.
Mike Reagan, Jim Reagan’s oldest son, joins the agency only days after his college graduation.
1986
Ned Reagan joined the agency as Commercial Sales Manager and Vice President.
Ned Reagan, another one of Jim Reagan’s sons, joins the agency after three years in Aetna Casualty’s Executive Training Program. With Ned’s entry the agency starts to focus more on Commercial Insurance.
1991
Rick Reagan joined the agency as Financial Services Manager and Vice President.
Rick Reagan, Jim Reagan’s youngest son, joins the agency as Financial Services Manager and Vice President. Rick is now President of Reagan Companies Asset Management, Inc. (RCAM).
2018
Sean Reagan, Mike Reagan’s son, joins the firm.
Sean is the fourth generation of Reagans to be part of the firm.
Through the years as the firm grew additional departments have been added to the agency including Commercial Lines, Wealth Management (RCAM), Group Benefits, Bond, Risk Management & Claims and Personal Lines.
Today the Reagan Companies continues to grow and presently has more than 60 employees in our Syracuse, NY office. We are a national award winning agency having won the MarshBerry Pinnacle Awards three times, most recently in 2018.
